Slate, copper and historic restoration since 1962

Find the leak, fix the cause

Water rarely comes in where the ceiling stain is. We trace leaks back to the actual failure point, then repair it with materials that match the rest of the roof.

How we approach it

Most leaks we are called to trace come from flashing, not from the roof field: a chimney counter flashing that has pulled out of the mortar joint, a cracked plumbing boot, an open valley or an ice dam backing water under the shingles. We document the source with photos before we quote.

Repairs are done in matching materials. That means copper nails and slate hooks on slate, sealed step flashing on shingles and heat-welded patches on TPO, not a bucket of roof cement.

The process, step by step

  1. First

    Call or book

Tell us what you are seeing. Active leaks get a same-day or next-morning visit.

  2. Then

    Trace

We check the attic, the roof and the flashing to find where water is really entering.

  3. Next

    Repair

Most repairs are completed in the same visit with materials we carry on the truck.

  4. Finally

    Follow up

We check back after the next heavy rain and send you the photo report.

Roof Repair: common questions

Leak tracing is included in the free inspection. If you book the repair, the diagnostic visit is not billed separately.

We can tarp and make temporary repairs in the rain. Permanent flashing and shingle repairs wait for a dry window so sealants and underlayment bond properly.

Only as an emergency stopgap. Permanent repairs replace the failed flashing or roofing material.
